VinCare®: GRAS affirmed whole grape extract, with cardiovascular benefits supported by clinical study
A double-blind, placebo controlled clinical study, performed by KGK Laboratories and published in the Journal of Functional Foods [1], showed significant benefits in levels of HDL-cholesterol, in the VinCare® group compared to placebo. Also, the VinCare® group experienced improvements in the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol, reported to be the most specific lipid risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD).
The researchers reported that: ‘These results are of clinical significance in this population of subjects as the role of HDL-C in reverse cholesterol transport is well documented and is believed to be cardioprotective.‘
“It is also known that raising HDL-C concentration reduces cardiovascular disease risk independent of LDL-C lowering.”
Patented VinCare® standardized for polyphenol and anti-oxidant levels
VinCare® is a patented, GRAS affirmed, whole grape extract, standardized to contain a minimum of 80% polyphenols, with an anti-oxidant level rated to 15,000 μmol TE/gram. These precise standards are maintained by a US patented manufacturing process, and distrbuted through ENI’s NSF certified cGMP facility.
The VinCare® clinical study supports Structure/Function claims
The clinical study results now support specific S/F claims for Vincare® relating to healthy cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health. At 350mg/day, these claims conform to FDA and FTC guidelines for the category. They include:
- Vincare® supports healthy cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health
- In healthy individuals there is a proper balance between HDL ‘good’ cholesterol and LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol. Taken as directed, Vincare® helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels, and supports cardiovascular health
Because VinCare® is supported by its own clinical study, it is ideal as a single ingredient supplement, or as part of a cardioprotective or antioxidant formula. For example, it is a key source of polyphenols in ENI’s Polyphenol-C™ vitamin C blend (that also includes other berry polyphenols).
Grape extracts and focus on polyphenols
The benefits of grape polyphenols are a growing focus of clinical studies, and this is reflected in their increasing use as supplement ingredients. Recent studies have shown health support benefits in a number of areas, including: cardiovascular and cholesterol health [1], blood pressure regulation [2], gut microbiota [3], neuroprotection [4], diabetes [5], and overall anti-oxidant ability [1].
As our population ages, more people today seek natural, long-term cardiovascular health support. VinCare® is ideal for this purpose, in capsules, powders or drink blends.
